NYC Baby!

Beware, its long....only 3 days and so much happened....

New York is my new love. My original love was Washington D.C but not anymore. I would still move there but NY is sooo much cooler. I went with my roommate Jessica as part of the scholars program. We left Thursday evening and drove all night. We arrived in NY at 4:30am but we weren't expected there until 7:30 and our rooms werent even going to be ready until 9:00. So we all put our luggage in a communal room and my roommate and I passed out in two chairs in the lobby. Some people went out into the city, others passed out like us. At 9 we put our things in the room and headed out for the day's events.

We first went to the UN for a tour. Of course, we had to wait for a while to get in but NY is a giant line really. When we got in we got a tour by a Chinese lady for about an hour. It was very interesting just rather long since we were all exhausted. When we finished that we had lunch and headed over to the Appolo Theatre in Harlem. We got sort of lost we were wandering around Harlem looking for it and we passed this one black lady that said "What are all these 'nillas doin' in Harlem?" I said to Jess, "Nillas? What is that the N word for white guys?" It was interesting...The theatre was interesting but the guy sort of irriated me. He was a nice guy and all but drove me crazy when it came to his speech. He was goin for like 15 mins crackin jokes and babbling on about nothing. I was so tired and had an awful headache. Hed sit there and be like, " Well I was talkin to this girl and and and and and and and and and....and and and (just say it kinda fast and that was it) and and and. Oh god I couldn't do it. After he did that a couple times I just put my head down and went to sleep. Apparently it was a good presentation but he said that a lot and I just couldn't listen to it anymore.

So after that hour or so presentation, we had a little free time where my roomie and I crashed in the room. Later that evening we were supposed to go to a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown called "The Nice Restaurant". Damn if that wasn't an experience just getting there... The two ladies that were supposed to be getting us from point A to point B had absoloutly no idea where they were going. When we were in the subway the rail we were supposed to be on was under construction so we had to take a detour. That was like the worst thing for these two because they got us all hopelesly lost. I looked at the one gal and said hey, why dont we just ask someone for directions? She actually looked at me and said, "uh, if you wanna ask directions then go ahead..." So I went up to a guy and told him what train we needed and he directed me to a different part of the subway so I lead the group there and imagine, there was our train. We got on there and got off the stop we supposedly needed only to get hopelessly lost all over again.

We were somewhere in NY but no where near Chinatown. We started walking in one direction for several blocks before they decided it was the wrong direction and started walking several more blocks. Finally they got smart again and asked directions. We walked maybe 6 1/2 more blocks before it finally came in sight. We were supposed to be there at 7:30, we left at 7:00 and didn't get there until 8:35. Yeah an hour and a half to get to dinner, it was rediculous. Three girls actually left at one point and just hailed a cab, I wanted my roomie to do that with me but she wouldnt so we walked and I was overly irritated. The dinner was good once we got there. They brought out like 8 courses that each table of like 8 shared. The food was delicious for the most part, some of it was rather interesting. After that Jess and I decided to catch a cab back to the hotel rather than trying the subways again. We got a cab by a guy named Ali who was middle eastern. He was very nice and we chatted all the way back. He drove like the typical New York cabbie: crazy. I thought he was awsome and he was telling us how to properly call a New York cab. "You gotta be like, damnit give me a ride moron!!" I told him I'd remember that for the future. We made it back in less than 20 mins and crashed in the room.

The next day we went to the Metropolitan Musem of Art. It's huge and gorgeous. My favorite part was the Greek and Roman sculptures. I love that kind of art and spent almost 20 minutes in that one room. We were in the museum for a little over an hour, saw most of it but missed a lot too. We were just too tired and had too little time. Jess and I then caught the subway over to catch the boatride out to the Statue of Liberty. The one we wanted was going to go out there and we could go inside but that was sold out. Instead we took just the free 25 min ride that went out and passed by the Statue. It was nice and relaxing. Afterwards we went shopping. We found an awsome store that had jeans for 15 dollars and tanks for 4.99. We went downstairs to try stuff on and they had hundreds of formal dresses crammed together. It was amazing, the dresses were gorgeous and cheap. Jess bought a shirt, my boobs didn't fit any. The interesting thing about New York is that they don't believe in multiple dressing rooms or multiple bathrooms. They had 3 fitting rooms, we had to wait in line for over a half an hour.

At a KFC that we had dinner in, we went to the bathroom and tried to open the door only to hear a male voice shout out "Hold on a minute, Im trying to take a shit here!!" We waited about 15 minutes and he didnt come out so I went back there and knocked on the door again. He said he was almost finished and I told him hurry up. He then opened the door and I said it was the women's bathroom. Then his girlfriend followed out after him as he said the men's was out of use so he had to use the women's. I immediatly knew they were having sex in there and suddenly I didn't have to pee as badly. I turned around and we just walked out. There's my first experience of people having sex in a public place. Yes, I love New York and would move there in a heartbeat. Just like Ali said, "You come to NY and you can't leave it, you just fall in love with it." Well said...
